Summary

A wedding harpist disillusioned with love and a hopeless romantic cater-waiter flirt and fight their way through a summer of weddings in this effervescent romantic comedy from the acclaimed author of Today Tonight Tomorrow。

Quinn Berkowitz and Tarek Mansour's families have been in business together for years: Quinn's parents are wedding planners, and Tarek's own a catering company。 At the end of last summer, Quinn confessed her crush on him in the form of a rambling email--and then he left for college without a response。

Quinn has been dreading seeing him again almost as much as she dreads another summer playing the harp for her parents' weddings。 When he shows up at the first wedding of the summer, looking cuter than ever after a year apart, they clash immediately。 Tarek's always loved the grand gestures in weddings--the flashier, the better--while Quinn can't see them as anything but fake。 Even as they can't seem to have one civil conversation, Quinn's thrown together with Tarek wedding after wedding, from performing a daring cake rescue to filling in for a missing bridesmaid and groomsman。

Quinn can't deny her feelings for him are still there, especially after she learns the truth about his silence, opens up about her own fears, and begins learning the art of harp-making from an enigmatic teacher。

Maybe love isn't the enemy after all--and maybe allowing herself to fall is the most honest thing Quinn's ever done。

i have mixed feelings。 I loved Tarek and the wedding planning thing。 But it was very long and it felt like the same problems were playing on a loop, Quinn was always thinking the same things over and over again, it was very annoying。 i do absolutely relate with her fears and i'm happy this book adressed this subject。 it was deeper than i expected considering the cover, that's probably why i didn't enjoy it that much, i really needed something light。i also read a review pointing some not very oka i have mixed feelings。 I loved Tarek and the wedding planning thing。 But it was very long and it felt like the same problems were playing on a loop, Quinn was always thinking the same things over and over again, it was very annoying。 i do absolutely relate with her fears and i'm happy this book adressed this subject。 it was deeper than i expected considering the cover, that's probably why i didn't enjoy it that much, i really needed something light。i also read a review pointing some not very okay stuff about the muslim rep in this book。 。。。more

I loved The Ex Talk and Today, tonight, tomorrow but the plot of this book was just stagnant。 The protagonists had ZERO CHEMISTRY。 What was supposed to be a cute bestfriends to lovers turned out to be a total snoozefest

…okay…I’m Jewish…sooooooo…look-this book had a good premise! I enjoyed reading reading the book at first, but I’m a really religious Jew (more religious than Quinn’s sister getting married), and I just couldn’t relate to Quinn and her observance at all。 To be fair, I expected it。 The actual story was fine, but the amount of times her and (what was his name??) that guy fought was so many times and I get it: depression and OCD-issues??? Anyways, it was fine。

5/10。 This book was just a cute rom-com。 I liked the setting of a family in the wedding business and a daughter that did not believe in romantic gestures。 However, the characters were not very complex, and many of their actions and thoughts were contradictory。

v cute (less on the fluffy side bc it deals with more serious stuff so cw for anxiety, depression) but let me just say that as a current college student, the whole "what is your passion" / "what do you want to do for the rest of your LIFE" struggle was portrayed v accurately ; overall i liked both characters and i'm happy for them to move forward and be together <3 v cute (less on the fluffy side bc it deals with more serious stuff so cw for anxiety, depression) but let me just say that as a current college student, the whole "what is your passion" / "what do you want to do for the rest of your LIFE" struggle was portrayed v accurately ; overall i liked both characters and i'm happy for them to move forward and be together <3 。。。more

Audiobook: 4。5 - this was such a cute book!! I felt that it teetered the line between YA and adult so if you are thinking it’s strictly YA, I’d give it a chance。 I kept wanting to shake Quinn out of her stubbornness and as she put it “self sabotaging” herself。 Very enjoyable and a quick listen。

Her 'big' reveal at the end was just too late and too sudden。 Her 'big' reveal was also so bad and the speech was so inappropriate。 You don't give a speech like that at someone else's wedding。 I'm also not convinced that she has really changed her mind about relationships。 My biggest irritations were with Quinn and how she kept waving away important conversations。 "I want to be in the moment。""I like it too much to think about it right now。" "I figured I'd deal with it later。" She just didn't want to deal with it, while that is so important in a relationship。It feels like the writer wanted to be very inclusive, maybe a little too inclusive。 This may sound a little weird, but I felt like it wasn't always realistic。 I think Canette's review explains this very well。I am glad that they soon started sharing personal things with each other, in some books people lie to each other to be perfect。 Also, in most books, you often have to wait a long time for this and it wasn't that bad。 Besides, I had never read a book where eczema was discussed openly。 。。。more

Another solid teen/YA read by Solomon。This one does a great job of showing healthy communication (and unhealthy) between young adults who are interested in consensual sexual activity。It also is an interesting story about feeling stuck in a family business out of obligation and fear, and how it can prevent a young person from finding out who they really are and can be。My one "warning" of sorts is that it does a good job of putting us deep in the head of an 18yo with OCD and anxiety, so if the rea Another solid teen/YA read by Solomon。This one does a great job of showing healthy communication (and unhealthy) between young adults who are interested in consensual sexual activity。It also is an interesting story about feeling stuck in a family business out of obligation and fear, and how it can prevent a young person from finding out who they really are and can be。My one "warning" of sorts is that it does a good job of putting us deep in the head of an 18yo with OCD and anxiety, so if the reader is in a bad place right now so shouldn't allow themselves to feel those feelings, maybe wait this one out until they're in a better place。 。。。more

Quinn was the queen of one step forward, three steps back and while I understand her hesitation toward Tarek, it got incredibly annoying。 Overall, it wasn’t bad but I wished it was about 2 hours shorter。

Raw and beautiful。 First of all, I saw this book on Pinterest, plus the cover always attracts me。 Now, I am not disappointed。 It was sweet, topics like OCD and depression laid out in a very intricate way。 I loved the way Tarek And Quinn have huge differences between them, the first being confident about the future and the latter being confused。 It's all about the Jewish Harpist and the Muslim Baker isn't it? This wasn't Bad, the writing was good, but there were just enough things that I just brought my enjoyment down。 1。 Muslim readers pointed it out that the Muslim rep re: Tarek is extremely incorrect so that's not great。 2。 Quinn。 I wanted to like her, and there's nothing wrong with characters who are unlikable but she doesn't really have any redeeming qualities。 I feel like the character development wasn't really developed, more just that a flip switched and suddenly she was Remorseful。 3。 The co This wasn't Bad, the writing was good, but there were just enough things that I just brought my enjoyment down。 1。 Muslim readers pointed it out that the Muslim rep re: Tarek is extremely incorrect so that's not great。 2。 Quinn。 I wanted to like her, and there's nothing wrong with characters who are unlikable but she doesn't really have any redeeming qualities。 I feel like the character development wasn't really developed, more just that a flip switched and suddenly she was Remorseful。 3。 The communication。 Like, I get it's a trope in romance stories to have next-to-zero communication but this felt ridiculous。 I get Quinn's anxiety—I have been there—but I feel like there wasn't even an attempt and that just really put me off。 Like, she brought all this pain on herself。 This whole book was just :/ 。。。more

Sweet fluffy fun。 This is one of those turn your brain off and just enjoy it reads。 Try not to think too hard about the logical inconsistencies。 Yes Quinn can be hard to relate to for some people。 I loved how cinnamon roll Tarek was and this reminded me of a Sarah Dessen novel (probably due to the wedding theme) in the best way。 I love Rachel’s sense of humor and I laughed out loud multiple times。 A few nitpicks: -unrealistic portrayal of an allergy which could easily turn deadly and was treated Sweet fluffy fun。 This is one of those turn your brain off and just enjoy it reads。 Try not to think too hard about the logical inconsistencies。 Yes Quinn can be hard to relate to for some people。 I loved how cinnamon roll Tarek was and this reminded me of a Sarah Dessen novel (probably due to the wedding theme) in the best way。 I love Rachel’s sense of humor and I laughed out loud multiple times。 A few nitpicks: -unrealistic portrayal of an allergy which could easily turn deadly and was treated like no big deal -Egyptians dating outside their culture/religion? I always forget that these are teenagers that I'm reading about when I read Solomon's books。 Instead of quirky YA stories, she digs into real familial and mental health issues that real teenagers deal with and you don't often read about。 It's always a nice break to read one of her books。 And I fully snort-laughed a few times, having a Jewish office mate and understanding some of the winks thrown in。 I always forget that these are teenagers that I'm reading about when I read Solomon's books。 Instead of quirky YA stories, she digs into real familial and mental health issues that real teenagers deal with and you don't often read about。 It's always a nice break to read one of her books。 And I fully snort-laughed a few times, having a Jewish office mate and understanding some of the winks thrown in。 。。。more

I'm not sure I'd say there's anything wrong with We Can't Keep Meeting Like This, but it all felt very familiar and is easily the most forgettable of Rachel Lynn Solomon's four YA publications to date。 It doesn't have much that separates it from other YA rom-coms with very similar premises, and it's decidedly longer than it needs to be。 And perhaps it's just me, but the way in which conflicts were stretched out or created by the self-sabotaging protagonist felt really tedious, even though I'm al I'm not sure I'd say there's anything wrong with We Can't Keep Meeting Like This, but it all felt very familiar and is easily the most forgettable of Rachel Lynn Solomon's four YA publications to date。 It doesn't have much that separates it from other YA rom-coms with very similar premises, and it's decidedly longer than it needs to be。 And perhaps it's just me, but the way in which conflicts were stretched out or created by the self-sabotaging protagonist felt really tedious, even though I'm all for struggling main characters。 However, I will say that I liked the mental health representation in this book quite a bit。 The characters' struggles with mental illness aren't something that drive the plot or that they have to confront as the primary conflict (although they of course contribute to it), but just there, a part of their everyday lives that they live with。 Which is how it is。 Overall, not without its merits, but generally rather muddled and frustrating, especially for a book that promises itself as a romantic delight。 3 stars。 。。。more
